False Color

False color is a clear, quick, and accurate feature for indicating the exposure of an image. When pixels in the image reach a certain brightness range, they are colored accordingly to help cinematographers assess the exposure of different parts of the image and make rapid adjustments. Additionally, false color can be used in scenarios requiring uniform exposure, such as with a green screen.

False Color On/Off
[Menu–>Tools–>False Color]
Default: [Off]

With the default settings, pressing the [2] button can quickly turn the False Color on or off.
In Eagle SDI e-Viewfinder, False color uses ARRI’s false color style, defined as follows:

ARRI‘s False Color
ColorBrightness Range(%)
Red99 – 100%
Yellow97 – 99%
Pink52 – 56%
Green38 – 42%
Blue2.5 – 4%
Purple0 – 2.5%

Notice Similar to the waveform and zebra, some cameras allow adjusting the Look (LUT) of the SDI output. When the SDI output is LOG and the brightness clipping occurs at 80%, the false color’s yellow and red indicators will not be displayed. In this case, it is necessary to check the waveform for clipping to prevent overexposure in the image.
