Histogram

The histogram is also a built-in feature of the Eagle SDI e-ViewFinder for assessing the exposure. Unlike the waveform, which represents the exposure across specific positions from left to right, the histogram represents the overall exposure of the image. Therefore, the histogram allows for a quick confirmation of the image’s overall exposure.

The histogram is a brightness graph. From left to right, it represents the brightness levels of the image. It calculates the brightness in different regions of the image and “weights” them to determine the number of areas with varying brightness levels. If the peak is on the right side of the histogram, most of the image is in the highlights. Conversely, if the peak is on the left side, most of the image is in the shadows.

The histogram has two reference lines: the middle one is the 18% gray brightness reference line, and the right one is the 90% brightness reference line.

There are two types available for the histogram: [Luminance] and [RGB]. When [RGB] is selected, you can see the brightness values of red, green, and blue on the histogram. This allows you to roughly judge the white balance of the current image. The more the red, green, and blue peaks overlap, the closer the image is to the white balance color temperature of the current environment. If the blue peak is closer to the right side of the histogram, the color temperature of the current image is cooler. Conversely, if the red peak is closer to the right side, the color temperature of the current image is warmer.

Additionally, the histogram has two size options: [Large] and [Medium]. When the histogram is enabled, it will be displayed in the lower right corner of the screen. Cinematographers can choose the most suitable size according to their needs.
